KDT Co-Artistic Director Tina Parker has two official job titles with Kitchen Dog, but plays a million roles. Including, happily, the role of Meena in RX from March 29 through April 27 at Kitchen Dog Theater. See her live onstage, then check her out onscreen in Breaking Bad or this July in The Lone Ranger!
FULL GIVEN NAME
Tina Renee Parker
HOMETOWN
Born in Woodville, TX - currently live in Dallas
ZODIAC SIGN
CURRENT SHOW (OTHER THAN YOUR OWN) THAT YOU HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDING TO FRIENDS
There's a lot of great stuff happening in Dallas - I have been digging what our friends over at the Undermain have been putting out. Solid, exciting stuff.
(Catch Scott Latham - last seen onstage at KDT in The Beauty Queen of Leenane - in Undermain Theatre's The Ghost Sonata starting April 13!)
MOST PLAYED SONG ON YOUR IPOD/DEVICE
LAST BOOK YOU READ
Lately it's been all plays, all the time - New Works Fest is coming up at KDT and we have a GIANT stack (400!) to get through - but have read some REALLY good ones so far!!
MUST-SEE TV SHOW
Breaking Bad & Mad Men are my "stories." And I won't lie - I do love me some Top Chef and Project Runway.
LAST GOOD MOVIE YOU SAW
Argo. Though, best good/bad movie I saw recently was Theater of Blood starring the one and only Vincent Price - laugh out loud awesome. I highly recommend it to any actor. :)
PERFORMER YOU WOULD DROP EVERYTHING TO GO SEE
Prince
POP CULTURE GUILTY PLEASURE
Does watching Fashion Police and The Soup count?
(Editor's Note: Totes.)
FAVORITE PRE-/POST-SHOW MEAL
I can't really eat much before shows. But I do enjoy an ice-cold adult beverage and some kind of snack after the play.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE?
Horse jockey (but was already too tall in 1st grade - DEVASTATED!) & a Heart Surgeon (mostly because I loved medical TV programs like Quincy and Trapper John, MD)
Stung by a wasp on my stomach multiple times onstage RIGHT before delivering a long direct-address monologue during Sore Throats. Good thing it was a pretty angry monologue... The wasp (which I rolled on during a long combat section of the play before it stung me) also proceeded, after the "fiery monologue," to walk very slowly up my bare back (I was only wearing a slip) and then crawl/buzz all over my head and face throughout the next scene. The expression on my scene partner's face was one of abject terror.
WORST COSTUME EVER
Not everyone knows how to costume a curvy girl so it's always "sad panda" time when you're given costumes that look like mother-of-the-bride ensembles and/or items from the "I've Given Up" Sag Harbor brand.
A PLAY THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE ON A DALLAS STAGE BUT SHOULD BE DONE
I ain't saying...in case KDT can get the rights to it. :)
ONE PLAY YOU HOPE YOU NEVER SEE AGAIN
Any of the TUNA plays.
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT HOLDS DALLAS BACK FROM THEATRICAL GREATNESS
Overall buy-in from the general population of Dallas that theater is a cool/fun/invigorating thing to do - once you get them in the door and they experience some of the great work happening around town, then I think the dollars will follow (this is also a key component to keeping the arts alive in Dallas & Texas, as the arts seem to be the first thing cut in all budgets).
BUCKET LIST ROLES
Any of Tennessee Williams' women
IF YOU HAD TO RUN A SHOW FOR 10 YEARS AND YOU GOT TO CHOOSE - WHAT WOULD IT BE?
That I was in? Mr. Marmalade (great cast - hella fun to perform); that I directed? Hedwig & the Angry Inch (that music is just amazing and again - just a great group of people).
Tina Parker, William Paul Williams, KDT Artistic Company Members Leah Spillman and Mike Federico in Mr. Marmalade |
SUPERSTITIONS?
I set routines for shows that I follow pretty religiously - down to preshow water consumption, Emergen-C & what music I listen to in the car. I'm a OCD nut that way.
DREAM PROFESSION IF YOU DIDN'T BECOME AN ARTIST?
Person who gets to name nail polish colors or perhaps a travel agent?
